Schema markup for dog behaviourists

Dog behaviourist schema markup, with an example

Use LocalBusiness with your consultations in an offer catalog, a contact point for vets who refer, and yourself as founder carrying your qualifications and register membership. Give home visits a local areaServed and video consultations a wider one, so neither hides the other.

The type to use

LocalBusiness

ProfessionalService looks closer for consultation work, but schema.org has deprecated it, and behaviour work isn't veterinary or medical, so those types don't fit either. LocalBusiness is the accurate choice.

What to include

The properties that matter for dog behaviourists

Most important first. Fill in what's true for you and leave out the rest; every value must also be on the page.

hasOfferCatalog
First consultation at home, first consultation by video and follow-up sessions, with length and what's included (a written plan, weeks of email support) in each description.
founder
You, as a Person with your jobTitle, your qualifications in hasCredential and your register membership in memberOf. They're yours, not the business's.
contactPoint
A ContactPoint with contactType “vet referrals” and the address you use for them, matching your page for vets.
areaServed
The city and nearby towns for home visits. Video consultations carry their own, wider areaServed inside their offer.
knowsAbout
The behaviour you work with, in owners' words: “separation-related behaviour”, “fear of visitors”, “reactivity on walks”. No conditions, no outcomes.
address
Locality and postcode district if you visit clients; a full address only if owners come to a centre.
telephone
The number for owners who'd rather talk it through before booking, which most do.
sameAs
Your entry on your register's public list, if it has one, and your professional social pages.

Example

Copy, then make it yours

This is the markup for a made-up business. Replace every value with your own before you use it.

  1. Change every name, address, number and link to your own, and delete lines that don't apply.
  2. Paste it into your site's header code (website builders call it “code injection” or “custom code”), or let ServiceCited add it for you.
  3. Check it with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.

Watch out

Mistakes dog behaviourists make with markup

  • VeterinaryCare for “clinical” work

Even if your title is clinical animal behaviourist, VeterinaryCare means a vet's practice and MedicalBusiness means health care. Both describe medical treatment, which you don't provide.

  • Your degree on the business

hasCredential on the LocalBusiness says the company holds an MSc. Put qualifications and memberships on the founder or employee Person who earned them.

  • Video consultations boxed into one city

If areaServed lists only Sheffield and its neighbours, an owner in Norwich asking for an online behaviourist won't find you in the answer. Give the video offer its own areaServed, as wide as you really work.

Also worth adding

  • Person: On your About page, a Person block with the same name, credentials and memberships as founder ties your own name to the practice.

FAQ

Dog behaviourists: markup questions

Type to search these questions, or ask anything about getting found on Google and AI.

Two of us see clients. How do we show both?

Use employee with a Person for each of you, each carrying their own credentials and memberships. founder stays for whoever set the practice up.

Owners claim on pet insurance. Is there markup for that?

No. paymentAccepted is for ways to pay, like card or bank transfer, not insurance cover. Say on the page what paperwork you provide, such as invoices, and leave policy questions to the insurer.

Behaviourist or behaviorist: which spelling goes in the markup?

The one your page and your clients use. Don't add the other spelling to alternateName, which is for other names of the business, not variant spellings of a job.

Be the first name owners find.
