Schema markup for pet crematoria
Pet crematorium schema markup, with an example
LocalBusiness is the type, with a catalog that explains each cremation option, including whether ashes come back, priced by your weight bands, and areaServed for where you collect from. Add a contact point for after-hours collection if you offer it, so it isn't lost behind your office hours.
The type to use
LocalBusiness
schema.org has no type for crematoria or funeral services, and Cemetery is a kind of place rather than a business, so it can't carry a catalog or prices. LocalBusiness covers both.
LocalBusiness on schema.orgWhat to include
The properties that matter for pet crematoria
Most important first. Fill in what's true for you and leave out the rest; every value must also be on the page.
- hasOfferCatalog
- Individual, communal and attended cremation as separate offers, each described in plain words (is the pet cremated alone, do the ashes come back) and priced by weight band.
- contactPoint
- A ContactPoint with contactType “after-hours collections” and the number that's answered at night, if you run that service.
- areaServed
- The counties or towns you collect from, at home or from the vet. Families look for someone who'll come to them.
- openingHoursSpecification
- Office and visiting hours. The after-hours line has its own contact point, so these can stay accurate.
- address
- Your full address, for families who come to you or attend a cremation.
- description
- One gentle, factual sentence on what you offer and where, in the language your page uses.
- telephone
- The main office line, which families and vet practices ring during the day.
- sameAs
- Your Facebook page, where families often leave messages of thanks.
Example
Copy, then make it yours
This is the markup for a made-up business. Replace every value with your own before you use it.
- Change every name, address, number and link to your own, and delete lines that don't apply.
- Paste it into your site's header code (website builders call it “code injection” or “custom code”), or let ServiceCited add it for you.
- Check it with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.

Mistakes pet crematoria make with markup
Communal cremation with no word about ashes
An offer that just says “Communal cremation, $85” leaves out the one thing a family must know. Add a description saying ashes aren't returned, matching the page.
Partner vets listed as your locations
Collecting from twenty practices doesn't give you twenty branches. Adding their addresses to your block suggests offices there; use areaServed for the counties and name practices on the page only if they've agreed.
Office hours that read as unreachable
If your markup shows only 8:30 to 5 and you answer the phone all night, assistants will tell a family at 10pm that you're closed. A contact point for after-hours collections fixes that.
Also worth adding
- Product: If urns and keepsakes are sold on their own pages, Product markup there can carry each one's price and availability.
FAQ
Pet crematoria: markup questions
Type to search these questions, or ask anything about getting found on Google and AI.
Should urns and keepsakes be in the catalog?
Yes, if you sell them: each as an offer for a Product with its starting price, after the cremation options. Say on the page which ones are included in a cremation price.
Can we mark up attended cremations?
If you offer them, add one as its own service with a description of what attending involves and its price. Leave it out if it's something you arrange only now and then.
We also have a pet cemetery. Should it be marked up separately?
Keep one LocalBusiness and add burial plots to the catalog. If the cemetery has its own entrance and visiting hours, a separate Cemetery block on its own page can describe the place.
